Description
The Toy Drive Coordinator provides general oversight and direction to the Toy Drive and Santa Shuffle campaigns. The Toy Drive Coordinator organizes, directs, and supervises the work performed by Christmas Campaign Workers and volunteers. They will also ensure adequate volunteer coverage during each shift.
Key Responsibilities
Administration
- Work in partnership with the Hamper Coordinator and CFS staff to ensure smooth campaign
- Recruit, train and provide supervision to volunteers who assist with the Santa Shuffle or Toy Drive
- In cooperation with the Toy Drive and CFS staff, ensure all campaign information is updated and promoted to the community and partnering agencies
- Secure donations or sponsors to assist with food and refreshments for Santa Shuffle and Toy Driver volunteers
- Maintain confidential records of client information
- Complete online applications with clients as required
- Answer telephone, manage and/or redirect calls as appropriate
- Prepare, coordinate and distribute correspondences as required
- Update information and materials as required throughout the campaign
- Coordinate team meetings together with the Hamper Campaign team
- Complete final campaign report to director to include campaign highlights and recommendations
Santa Shuffle
- Solicit donations for prize draws for both the Santa Shuffle and the children’s Elf Walk
- Solicit for participants and volunteers and solicit donations for goodie bags
- Pick up registrations from Running Room
- Recruit volunteers for registration, race marshals, refreshments and to assist in packing goodie bags
- Arrange with St. John Ambulance First Aid Volunteers for the race
Toy Drive
- To provide general oversight of the Toy Drive including: the set up and dismantle of the Toy Distribution Centre, toy centre volunteers, various community toy drives and toy purchases when/where necessary
- Provide direction and supervision to campaign assistant
- Liaise with local businesses, radio stations and the community at large to support the campaign
- Keep an accurate inventory all donated and purchased toys
- Oversee the organizing, setting up and take down of the toy centre
- Ensure adequate volunteer coverage for each shopping day
- Secure donations of food/snack foods for volunteers as require
- Collect, record and forward statistical information as required
Working Conditions
Perform other position related duties as required.
- This is a Seasonal Full-time position based on up to 40 hours per week.
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required as hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
- Ability to lift/move 20 lbs. (11.34kg).
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
- Local travel is associated with this position
Qualifications And Education Requirements
- Completion of high school
Experience And Knowledge
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
- Experience in office administration.
- Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
